I don't really see how this grouping of images showcases a narrative. I think editing is a great way to help people understand your intent. You might want to start studying the following sites to find creative ways to present your work:
http://www.digitaljournalis...
http://www.reportage.org/
http://www.time.com/time/ph...
http://digital-photography-...

These should get you started. And of course, investigating what Vewd has to offer will help too!

Good luck and keep at it! Feel free to keep in touch with me too and hopefully we can continue a dialogue about photo essays and how to craft a narrative story.

Jamie Rose

Re: Untitiled by Sveta Khisamutdinova

Judges Comments:
Sveta – Without an artist statement or something to explain your thought process I feel a bit lost. Like Panos, I believe color and black & white can work in some instances, however, I don’t believe the mix works here. More importantly, I don’t understand at all what you are trying to convey with these images. There are a few beautiful singles in there but no narrative or common thread and several images that are much weaker than the others, dragging the rest down. You have an eye but it seems you need to figure out your purpose and focus your energy on developing a narrative to help everything hold together. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you wan to dialogue about this some more. Keep at it!

Re: Untitiled by Sveta Khisamutdinova

hi! Some more deserve attention, some less. Photography is but a little part of the surrounding. One are like flashes. The other like eternal and repeating.
I agree with your point about the stories (exact they absence). This photos about different stores and creative motivation origin different too. The only thing which combine them – my impression in which they had created. They all were made from 2005 to 2009. Maybe…should I provide a story for each picture..

Re: Untitiled by Sveta Khisamutdinova

SVETA,
i see a great photographer here... i see random photos...
scattered around.. i have no problem with mixing
black and white with color... not at all...
but i have a problem with "mixing" stories....
I see no essay here... i see your talent though...
but you gotta be able to be a story teller otherwise.... otherwise,
there is no story... no story... no essay... make sense?
I wouldnt dare to edit you because everything could stay
and at the same time everything could go...
but... i do see your talent... i totally do..
